Started small...
The origin of TechniCare (then as Metavo) is a classic story. Founder Arjan van de Voorde started out for himself in the shed at the back of the garden, where he produced precision mechanical parts on a lathe that he overhauled himself. These products were used in various sectors, from kitchen taps to agricultural machinery. What began as an activity alongside his then salaried job quickly grew into a business that no longer fit in a barn. Over the past 25 years, TechniCare has grown from a metalworking company into a manufacturer of innovative medical devices with international ambitions. Today, we are a close-knit family business, with the second generation taking over daily management from founder Arjan van de Voorde.
2000: Establishment of Metavo
Metavo was founded by Arjan van de Voorde on June 1, 2000. The company focuses on product development and production of precision mechanical parts. The products Metavo makes are applied in numerous products and sectors. From the start of Metavo, product development has been one of the most important activities. Product development is therefore intertwined with the DNA of the organization, even to this day.
2004: Metavo becomes TechniCare
About two years after founding Metavo, Arjan develops the first products for use in hospitals. Because there is a high demand in the medical world for new products and solutions, many products are developed for hospital applications during these years. Partly because the focus is increasingly on developing products for the medical sector, the name of the company is changed from Metavo to TechniCare.
2016: Nascentia Delivery Bed
TechniCare's biggest product is the Nascentia delivery bed. The development of this bed stemmed from a request from the OLVG hospital in Amsterdam. The Nascentia combines the comfort of a full-sized nursing bed with the positions and capabilities of a delivery bed. Since 2019, the bed can be equipped with an electrically driven fifth wheel. This ensures optimal movability by one person in an ergonomic way, as hardly any force is needed to move the bed.
2021: The 2nd generation
An important moment in the history of TechniCare: Arjan's three sons take over the company. The acquisition by Peter, André and Richard also marks the next phase for the company. TechniCare has grown into a medical device manufacturer in 20 years, and this is being expanded into the future. The focus is first on the internal organization to ensure that all people, processes and systems are ready for further, healthy growth. This ensures sharp choices regarding the product portfolio, the way of working and producing, and, among other things, the implementation of an ERP system.
2025: Launching Infuuts!
In 2025, the first milestone is achieved early on: the Infuuts is officially available worldwide. With an inbox full of interest, both from hospitals and from foundations that want to sponsor the Infuuts to hospitals, this product immediately starts off as a success. Children being able to ride their bikes freely again while on IVs: it's a new world opening up!
2002: First premises on Tinstraat in Ridderkerk.
Just under two years after Metavo was founded, the barn and garden became too small to work in due to the steady growth of the company. In 2002, the first building is purchased on the Tinstraat in Ridderkerk. The construction of the property is monitored weekly by the entire family. Three years after the purchase of the first property, the property next door is purchased. Another three years later, the property behind it is purchased and the three properties are merged.
2010: Mobilyzer
When Arjan himself saw a fall incident occur with a star foot infusion pole, he came up with the idea for the Mobilyzer, TechniCare's first product classified as a Medical Device. After its introduction, the Mobilyzer won both the jury and audience award at the Zorgtotaal trade show for best new innovation. Several variants of the Mobilyzer are being developed. In 2024, the first model is replaced by the Mobilyzer 2.
2018: Launch international strategy
In 2018, TechniCare began marketing its products internationally. In addition to the Dutch market, where TechniCare is growing rapidly, international sales are part of the growth strategy. To make this possible, collaborations were started with distributors in several countries, with the focus mainly on Northwest Europe due to the demand for innovation and high(er) quality requirements. In particular, the Nascentia delivery bed is proving interesting for other markets, but other products have since been sold outside the Netherlands as well.
2024: Certification ISO 13485
Obtaining ISO 13485 certification (quality management system for the development and production of medical devices) is an important milestone for TechniCare. This certificate shows that TechniCare operates according to a quality management system that has been tested against the international standard. The certificate also means that the internal organization is ready for further growth and that the strategy formulated in 2021 has been realized. In addition, this certificate makes it easier to export products to new markets.
Team
TechniCare employs people with a passion for the craft and for making and creating products. Together, we seek innovations to make healthcare more accessible and better every day. We do this with a wide range of specialists. TechniCare employs its own staff to handle the entire process - from initial sketch to series production - in-house. We do this with product designers, machinists, welders, mechanics and service engineers. Everyone is driven to make products of the highest quality in the right composition available daily.
